ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD DEVONPORT

CEMETERY ROAD

Cemetery Road was the road leading from Pennycomequick to the Plymouth, Stonehouse and Devonport Cemetery.  It was entirely on the Devonport side of the Devonport/Plymouth Borough boundary until it crossed the boundary to reach the Cemetery Lodge.

Part of the Road at the western end was known as Russell Place, which crossed Wake Street and Holdsworth Street.

The General Post Office's Postal Sorting Office was subsequently erected on the southern side of the Road, opposite Holdsworth Street, but still entirely within the Devonport Borough boundary.  Opposite numbers 1 to 4 Russell Place but lower than Cemetery Road, was a Nursery, also entirely within the Devonport Borough boundary.

At some point after the Second World War Cemetery Road was renamed Central Park Avenue.
