ROADS AND STREETS IN OLD DEVONPORT

YORK PLACE

York Place was a row of dwellings at the rear of Stoke Terrace, Albert Road, and running between Keppel Place (opposite the former Stoke Damerel High School for Girls building) and Tavistock Road, Stoke (currently named Devonport Road).

Its only principle building was the Huyshe Masonic Hall on the corner with Home Park.  Opposite it in 1914 was the builders' yard of Mr J H Day.  The only business premises were at number 17C, on the corner with Tavistock Road, where Mr T Penney ran his general stores.
