TRAMWAYS IN OLD DEVONPORT  |  DEVONPORT AND DISTRICT TRAMWAYS COMPANY Ltd  |  ROUTE NETWORK

MORICE SQUARE TO TOR LANE

Route numbers were unknown in Old Devonport until after the amalgamation with Plymouth.

The route covered: From Morice Square - New Passage Hill - William Street - South Keyham (Albert Road Gate) - Keyham Road - North Keyham (Saint Levan Gate) - Saint Levan Road - Milehouse - Tavistock Road - Borough boundary at Tor Lane.

The track from Saint Levan Road through Milehouse to Tor Lane was laid at the cost of Devonport Corporation and leased to the Devonport and District Tramways Company.

Services along this route did not start on the same date as those on the remainder of the Route Network.  The section in Saint Levan Road between Ford Hill and Swilley Hill was the last to be completed in 1904.

Unfortunately the income from both the sections constructed by Devonport Corporation failed to pay the expenses of running them and the Company withdrew the passenger service as from Saturday January 16th 1909.
