Last in the block of buildings that started at the northern end with Number 24 Store, the White Yarn House, is Number 27 Store, the Tarred Yarn Store.  Once the yarn had been tarred in the Number 25 Store, the Tarring and Wheel House, it was wound on to bobbins and stored in this building until required in the West Rope House.

Like its neighbours, it was constructed in 1769 of limestone rubble with board-lined walls and has two storeys, a basement and a slated king post roof which contains a raised walkway with the horizontal rope-winding capstans that distributed the tarred yarn through the store.

Under the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990 and succeeding legislation Number 27 Store, the Tarred Yarn Store, has Listed Building 2* status.
